Can you use a handheld gps receiver for geocaching?
It will work. After all, Smartphones have geocaching apps and have a much simpler GPS internallyA handheld GPS is the preferred equipment for geocaching. Cell phone apps are available as well, but have some drawbacks such as durability in harsh environments, short battery life (when the GPS mode is in use), and it appears that when caches are hidden using phone apps, the coordinates are often less than accurate. I'd recommend buying a "real" GPS for geocaching.
